DCR-HC47E Touchscreen and zoom does not work. Do I have to throw it away or can it be fixed cheaply?

Hi chrisjwren, welcome to the Sony Forums
Both faults are almost certainly due to a broken ribbon cable, which runs through the articulated hinge between the camera body and the screen. It's not a terminal problem and consignment to the dustbin might be a little hasty...
The ribbon cable is an inexpenisve component and although the correct one can be difficult to source, repair (labour) prices are often based on around an hour or two of bench time.
It's worth getting an idea of cost from an official Sony repairer; follow the links on this page http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/repair
You could also try a local electronics repair centre.
Cheers
