my z ultra cant receive an sms

basically what the title says...my message centre number is correct, settings are spot on, i just dont know why i dont receive sms's.......also,if i reboot my phone i can receive sms's for a few minutes before i just cant receive them anymore and then i have to reboot again to get the 'opportunity' to receive another sms, i say opportunity because the time period is short.

does anybody know why this happens?  i thought it could be an app that prevents me from receiving sms's but i have no such app........i have a rooted z ultra on kitkat 4.4.4.......118. HELP!!

What happens if you try to change network mode and try GSM only and WCDMA only? You can do that from Settings -> More -> Mobile networks -> Network mode. It might be a network issue of if you have a SIM that doesn't support LTE and your phone connects to LTE.

There are no settings in the phone that could cause this issue. Settings like message centre number only affects sending SMS. If the memory is full you will however not receive SMS but since it helps to restart the phone i doubt that's the cause here. But i do recommend that you also check so that the internal memory is not near full.

thanks, my sim does support lte and it doesnt matter if its on lte,3g or gsm, i still cant get sms's.

i know that it isnt a network problem because i receive sms's without any issues if i put my sim into any other phone,i know it isnt memory because i have around 6gb on the phone and around 9gb on my sd card.

why can i only receive an sms when i reboot? what app is it that hasnt started-up yet thats causing me not to get sms's, i want to find that app and uninstall it.....but i cant figure it out at all

I'm not aware of any app that could cause an issue like this but to make sure it's not caused by a 3:rd part app i recommend that you try the phone in safe mode.

If the issue remains in safe mode, also try updating the firmware in your phone. From what i can see here, it doesn't look like your phone is updated with the latest firmware available for your device.

I see you tested my suggestion while i was writing it Slightly_smiling_Face

As it works in safe mode this suggests the issue is caused by an app that you have downloaded. I'm not aware of any app that would cause this though so hard to say which of your apps it could be. I would start by removing any 3:rd party messaging apps that you have installed and also if you have any task killers, cache cleaners and similar apps i recommend that you remove these.

But also check so that your phone is updated, based on the IMEI you have registered with us there is a new firmware for your phone.

btw, i am aware of the new firmware, i have already upgraded to lollipop and realised how much better kitkat is and downgraded again using flashtool, i know i shouldnt stay in the past with old software but i dont also want to use software that somebody else THINKS is better for me, i tried lollipop and i must say that it gave my z ultra the worst battery life ever, with lte enabled i could use my battery % as a countdown timer cos it would only last 3 hours, plus the user interface looked nice...but that was it, the drop down menu sucked, the icons were bigger...made my screen look smaller......if kitkat wore a suit, lollipop would be wearing a clown outfit....
