What about OTG support?

Hello guys...hardcore SONY fan here, but kind of disapointed lately by the new phone lineup. I've been the happy possessor of almost any SONY smartphone to date, starting back to the Sony Ericsson models. I'm currently using an Xperia C4, getting a very satysfying experience, and an Xperia Z5 classic, almost equally happy with. Being in mood of replacment I was not very attracted by the first X models (X, XA and X performance),mainly for the drawback in screen size. Inevitably I began turning my attention to other brands for the frst time. Fortunately, now I have the eventual successor to my excellent C4 and it's the XA Ultra, a great device, in which I can forgive some lacks due to the mid range allocation. The presentation of the XZ made me initially very happy cause design-wise it's a beauty and the specs are finaly almost top, so it could be the perfect replacment to my Z5...but in this case, there are a lot of things I cannot forgive., especially given the constantly high price tags....

In the late devices we have been assisting to a progressive "de-SONYzation" of the phones...interface closer and closer to stock (and let's say ok)...no screen recording (again, ok...ish)...excellent Xperia calendar disappearing (not ok)...Xperia keyboard disappearing (not ok at all!)...Stamina mode and battery performance worsening (Grrrrr...)...Waterproof feature lacking from flagships (...What????)...no radio FM on flagships (come again????)...no small apps (AAAGGGRRRRRRRR...what the heck, that was one of the main, most sleek, smart and most usefull caracteristics of SONY phones, for me at least). Now, I heard in one of the first reviews of the phone that even the OTG support is gone...if that is confirmed , I think that SONY company is really mobing its own smartphone branch...which is already in a not so happy place. I don't believe this is the best way to gain new customers...or even keep the old ones close....

Sorry for the outburst...in conclusion my question is...the XZ supports OTG function??

Thanks in advance for any response.

I tried connecting a external DAC via an OTG cable and it gave me a series of beeps. Nothing else.

The phone says connection was succesful, but I don't get any audio output.

Can someone guide me on what I need to do to get them talking?

edit:

BTW, I'm having troubles reading pictures off a thumbdrive via OTG. It simply says it cannot read the file despute listing it in the file manager. Copying it to local works though. Any ideas on this?

Based on my experience with the z5 android / sony places power restrictions on usb audio components, can you provide details please.

Why cant i buy an otg cable from a sony store ?, seems crazy that they are not sold given sony also sell heaphone amps etc.. i felt embarrased for the staff as they were clueless... anyway, where can i get a usbc otg cable.

I'm assuming you are using a micro USB to USB C adapter. Did you make sure to get one that is OTG compatible? If you did not then it will not work. There are some on Amazon that work just fine.

Musician,

I have an external DAC working. The trick there is the software. I'm using USB audio player pro. It's $8 in the play store and allows bit-perfect playing of files, control of wether or not to force output through the USB DAC, ability to change volume level selector to track selector, etc. Well worth the money. I've been using it for a month and am now having to relisten to my music in my car with a DSP. I'm noticing details I never heard before from CD ripped songs. Some of which, I've heard a thousand plus times. It also supports DSD file playing if you are into HiRes audio.

When I connect a USB drive via an otg adapter, I can not find it in the file manager of the device. It displays only the camera memory and the memory card. But it is present in es Explorer. Now the device does not offer options for ejecting the usb key. What do we have to do ?
