What about OTG support?

What about OTG support?

Hello guys...hardcore SONY fan here, but kind of disapointed lately by the new phone lineup. I've been the happy possessor of almost any SONY smartphone to date, starting back to the Sony Ericsson models. I'm currently using an Xperia C4, getting a very satysfying experience, and an Xperia Z5 classic, almost equally happy with. Being in mood of replacment I was not very attracted by the first X models (X, XA and X performance),mainly for the drawback in screen size. Inevitably I began turning my attention to other brands for the frst time. Fortunately, now I have the eventual successor to my excellent C4 and it's the XA Ultra, a great device, in which I can forgive some lacks due to the mid range allocation. The presentation of the XZ made me initially very happy cause design-wise it's a beauty and the specs are finaly almost top, so it could be the perfect replacment to my Z5...but in this case, there are a lot of things I cannot forgive., especially given the constantly high price tags....

In the late devices we have been assisting to a progressive "de-SONYzation" of the phones...interface closer and closer to stock (and let's say ok)...no screen recording (again, ok...ish)...excellent Xperia calendar disappearing (not ok)...Xperia keyboard disappearing (not ok at all!)...Stamina mode and battery performance worsening (Grrrrr...)...Waterproof feature lacking from flagships (...What????)...no radio FM on flagships (come again????)...no small apps (AAAGGGRRRRRRRR...what the heck, that was one of the main, most sleek, smart and most usefull caracteristics of SONY phones, for me at least). Now, I heard in one of the first reviews of the phone that even the OTG support is gone...if that is confirmed , I think that SONY company is really mobing its own smartphone branch...which is already in a not so happy place. I don't believe this is the best way to gain new customers...or even keep the old ones close....

Sorry for the outburst...in conclusion my question is...the XZ supports OTG function??

Thanks in advance for any response.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback!

Xperia XZ supports USB host API in the same way that Z5 does. In XZ, there's native support for HID, USB hub, USB mass storage and Audio. You can't use the same OTG-adapter though as XZ uses USB Type-C.

Xperia XZ is also protected against water and dust according to IP65/68.

There's no native app to record the screen as far as i know but you can download apps for this from Google Play. In Google Play, you can also download our calendar: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonymobile.calendar

Thanks a lot for your reply! I'm glad at least the OTG support survived...I wish small apps turned back also, together with the radio FM...

I hope te XZ hits soon the italian market so I can give a closer look and verify whether it can be forgiven for the other lacks or not!

I also hope someone in the SONY company reads our feedback and decides to finally deliver the device any fan is expecting, and show to the other brands what it's capable of!

- Bring back small apps PLEASE..

- Restore radio FM function to all the lineup

- Keep up the good work with the great SONY media apps and other apps like Track-Id ect...

- Give the excellent camera sensor what it deserves...an equally excellent software managment! I'm tired to hear all reviewers repeat "good photos but...not like the other top smartphones", which btw have SONY sensors too!

- Fix the stamina mode the way it used to be, so you get the best out of the battery with almost no impact to the general feeling and performance of the device.

Bye bye for now

We do of course read and forward feedback we get here on the forum. It's not possible for me to say what changes the future will bring but i do recommend that you have a closer look at Xperia XZ when available in your market. I don't think you'll be disappointed Slightly_smiling_Face

Rickard, sorry for off-topic, but after seeing so many people complaining about the lack of FM, can you forward this to someone responsible for the software? It's not that Sony has to take extra effort by making the FM radio themselves, cause the FM chip is already there working as it is integrated in the BT-chip. The only thing they have to do is activate it with already available software (The X Compact does have it...). In other words: the hardware supports it out of the box, they only have to release the FM-app and people can use it! That's all. Don't let them be greedy and force us to use streaming which uses much more battery, data and isn't as convenient.

I already mailed local support myself (and hope that others will do the same) but they only said that they didn't want to comment on this. Can you forward this and let us know what they say? Thanks.

@aad14

It's been forwarded but i'm afraid Xperia XZ does not have all the hardware components needed for a FM-radio so it's not possible to add it.

You need to choose detect USB device in the toggle.
