Hi all
Just thought I'd share my experience with this model, and ask a little question on the way.
Bought it after a review in a mag, looks won the day, I have a HDMI connection - so no worries there. Wanted to watch LOST that I'd downloaded, without having the laptop all over the lounge.
So switched it on. NO Sound.
Downloaded a patch - got sound (so far so good)
I'm reading about the standby issues reported here and it has been a bit weird, but I'll get those sorted hopefully.
Now then.....
I have SKY +. I've taken an s-video out from the Sky box and gone into the rear s-video on the Sony. Then ran through the MCE "My TV" wizard, all seemed ok - but I was getting 4:3 - the picture quality was , well ok I guess. (used the zoom feature to get the right aspect ratio). Although I have since ran another vaio update and the screen now goes straight to 16:9.
There was no sound, of course not....
So I connected the optical out from the Sky + box to the Optical In on the Sony. Still no sound. I closed MCE and opened the Windows Sound Recorder (crap app from Win95 that is still shipped with XP) I setup the spdif as a recordable input - and sure enough there was the audio from the TV !!
So, I tried the normal R/L audio output from Sky+ into the rear R/L connections on the Sony and the Live TV now had sound. But it was poor quality.
So any thoughts on getting the optical input into MCE?
Cheers
Hi tupelo and welcome to ClubVAIO.
Have you tried connecting your SKY+ to the s-video plug in the FRONT of your XL 100?
Hi Blencogo,
I haven't - not sure that will do anything for my sound issue though? Are you just generally interested in what will happen?
Let's try it....
Well it worked - although that time through the wizard the channel changer screwed up... Couldn't tell any major difference in the picture quality.
Cheers Tupelo
but still no sound...... from the otpical in
I have bought a Vaio XL100 and connected it to my Sony TV by the HMDI cable, I have also connected it to my sky digi box, I get sound but the picture is bleached and milky poor quaulity, does any one know how to solve this. The DVD picture is great and so is the sound it just seems to be the TV input, could it be the graphics card or tuner, please help as I was hoping for a better picture than this, and if you know any download or patches from sony that may help, please let me know.
