Hi All,

I have an A115M and would like to install 2x 1GB crucial ram sticks in it, has anyone managed to get this config working, even tho the spec says 1GB max total ?

Hi,

I have the A117s so the next model up. It also states that it will only take 1GB max, however the chipset can take 2GB The American version A190 actually states 2GB max

I bought a 1GB stick through Crucial and have been running with 1.25GB for over 2 weeks...All I can say is that it has made a huge differance with the performance and would recommend everyone with this model to get at least 1gig if not more...I will upgrade to 2GB in the next few weeks...

I guess what I am saying is buy through Crucial, the worse case senerio is that it doesn't work and you send it back to them, however I feel that you shouldn't have any issues.

thanx Justin !! I have the same model as you do (A117s), and I was wondering, since I saw the american model stating 2GB as max RAM.

So if it works on yours...it should work on mine!

You should also check out offtek.co.uk . They have some pretty good prices over there. For all kinds of PC modules. They have the whole range of VAIO pc modules as well..

Btw Justin.. dont you find the hard disk a bit slow?? I know its only a 4200rpm and i was thinking of buying a 5400rpm instead of upgrading RAM. Im still thinking about it. Problem is.. a new hard disk would void the guarantee im afraid..

P.S How much did u pay for the 1GB module?

Cheers for the site Inectarios I'll have a look..

The hd is def on the slow side and as you say if you replace it with a faster model the warranty will be void. However there is some good news, since I have upgraded the ram the disc access is far less and it hardly pages now so it won't be as bad. Also if you wait until the Sony is out of warranty and then upgrade you will be able to get one of the new Hitachi's or similar models who have released 60g 7200rpm drives, in a year will prob be 80gig as well.

The memory module wasn't cheap it was about £250 from what I can remember....however I prefer to pay for quality and therefore don't mind spending a bit extra, hence owning this Sony

Edited to remove Crucial recommendation because you've already heard of them :smileyd_oh: and I never registered the fact in my tiny brain :smileyd_oh:
