Hi
just wondering if anyone else experiences very slow up times on this dvd drive.....had problems with this drive and sony replaced it under warranty ...but always seems very slow in opperation.
pat
Slow up times? You mean the time it takes to recognise a disk and display the contents? You will have to define 'slow' a bit more specifically for anyone to be able to give you a comparison to something else.
DVD drives WILL be slow in comparison to CD-ROM, CD-R and CD-RW disk drives - the DVD technology is very new at the moment so don't expect blazing miracles yet.
For comparison, the first generation CD-ROM's had a top speed of 1x - painfully slow. My next drive was a 2x, then 4x, 8x, 16, 32x, 54x etc... So as time goes on, faster DVD drives will be released.
Hope this helps! If it works, then it is a case of just waiting!
DVD drives are as fast (If not faster) than CD drives, remember that 1X speed on a CD is a transfer speed of 150 kilobytes of data per second whereas 1X speed on a DVD is 1.38 megabytes per second.
Actually DVD drivers are 10x faster than CD as Rob illustrated....
This forum link HERE may explain a few problems another user encountered whilst using a DW-U50A drive. If this is too technical, then contact Sony for replacement #2 under warranty.
But all that log indicates is that there was a write error with an attempted burn. That could be caused simply by using poor quality or damaged media.
Some drives simply take longer to recognise a disk than others - fact of life.
Best to get replacement #2 in this case
James,
Did you actually read the replies to your post:smileywink:
