Can anyone send me details of a sevice centre in or near London please? I have read the number of discussions in the forum that mirror the problems I am having with my VGN-AR1SS (the most similar is the post for: Vertical lines on VGN-AR31M screen - Sony service centre appalling!
Unfortunately, I ended up starting the factory reset process but it won't allow me to complete it - ie in re-booting to start the second stage it just gets to the Windows page with the vertical stripes. I am just not tech savvy and would just like to take it in to a service centre. Unfortunatly, the list of professional networks found on the Sony site don't list anyone repairing Vaio laptops in or near London. Can you recommend some other service partners for me please?

What model do you have - VGN-AR1SS is an obvious typo!
How old is your Vaio? Is it less than 4 years old?
The answer to these questions is important because Sony are offering a free repair on certain models as long as they are less than 4 years old and have the nVidia fault confirmed.
If you qualify for a free repair under the extended 4 year warranty, you cannot take your Vaio to a local Service Partner - you must contact Vaio Link Support on the premium telephone line to arrange for a repair. To do this, go to the support pages here:-

And enter your Vaio's Serial Number, then click on get in touch. The Out-Of-Warranty premium telephone number from the UK is 0905 0310006.
However, if you do not have a qualifying model, or your Vaio is over 4 years old, you should contact one of Sony's Service Partners near you. You will find a full list of Service Partners in the UK here: -
