2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

@Folkfanger

Same thing happened to my review. It was very balanced review and positve about everything except the fact that some features were a little buggy. The review was moderated and I got this message:

Thank you for writing a review for X85C 4K Ultra HD with Android TV.

Unfortunately your review has been rejected as it is not in line with our review guidelines.

Is it any wonder the models rating on Sony's website is so high!

@paudanie8 Maybe that's the rule I broke. Claiming it was a great picture was "incorrect information".

I have turned my youview off now, it works fine but it's something I won't use and I like to press the tv button on the remote and the tv goes to my sky hdmi channel, loosing that button to youview seems like a waste,

Those with sky we can use our sky remotes to use the tv, if you press tv then help button that brings up the hdmi list move up and down and select which hdmi channel you want, and if you press tv then the i button that will open up the home screen and we can move around home and pick apps to open,

I'm happy with YouView so far. I don't use satellite, however!

The level of integration is excellent and it's great how it really blurs the line between broadcast and Internet services.  It would be great to see other catchup players supported eventually

I am am having a problem with it, however.  I'm finding that the All 4 app hangs every so often, and it takes the rest of YouView with it! I have to reboot the TV to get things working again.

@Anonymous, would you be able to add this to the list of issues that you have kindly been collating please?

Interesting... I believe the first review I wrote and had rejected, mentioned 'some bugs' perhaps the word bugs is banned, I did use the word "issues"in the resubmission.

Product is is Sony 2015 KDL 43W805C Android TV, UK Model with YouView, purchased Sept 2015.

My review wasn't accepted either. Argos use the Sony reviews on their site and it just gives potential customers the idea that the TVs are great.

My review from when I had the TV was rejected also. I was fairly objective and listed both the pros and (substantial) cons but obviously not good enough to pass muster.

When you add up all the little things (late release dates, functionality advertised but not available / implemented in isolation, poor performance, abysmal customer service, filtering of reviews, lack of official communication) you'll understand why I'm a bit bitter bout the whole experience, hence still posting here to advise people to stay clear until Sony get their act together.
