My problems are pretty muched summed up in the header: iMovie fail to import the HD video footage that I have recorded with my NEX-VG20EH video camera. Have anyone else experienced this? Maybe there are some settings that I need to obey?
Solved! Go to Solution.
First make sure you select "import from camera" (not "import from file")
iMovie does not support footage recorded in 1080-50p from this Camcorder. Furthermore the AVCHD recording modes in Sony-model digital still cameras and camcorders have changed in 2011 from previous models. New Sony cameras require Mac OS X v10.6.7 or later to import AVCHD video properly.

I have partly figured it out. Turns out that the .mts (MPEG Transport Stream) that is recorded when opting for HD is not directly importable to iLife '11. There seem to be some intermediate steps required, i.e. convert the .mts files to some other file formats before eventually importing them into iMovie. For now I'll just opt for STD.
