What is a purpose of update centre application?

Exactly. It can seem as a strange question. Unfortunately in my case it is not.

I have that application and it always says that everything is updated - that there is no updates. It says so even if google play gives me list of application to update and event when I have some notifications about updates.

So, what's the point of update centre app which does not give information about updates ?

I was also wondering what this is for. I can only assume it is for Sony's own apps and software that is specific to the phone.

Nac_zr is correct; this communicates with our servers only for updates and not to the Google Play servers.
