Device stuck at black 'sony' screen

After seeing that persistent 'update your device' notification for much too long I decided to let it do its thing, updating from 5.0.3 to 5.1.1. After running, everything broke!

Currently, the phone gets stuck at the black 'sony' screen. I tried the repair function in Sony PC Companion but it says "there is no software available for your device." To be clear, this is the underlined repair function with the fancy vol-down procedure and not the regular upgrade function. I am doing this on Windows 7, using a usb 2.0 port on the motherboard, and the OEM cable. I've played the uninstall/reinstall game the past few hours (with both PCC and the separate update service) with no dice. I also dug up a spare hard drive and attempted with a fresh W7 / driver install. It is receiving a charge from the wall charger, but rather slowly as the screen constantly turns itself back on while plugged in.

Please save me, forums!

Try charging the phone completely for a few hours then try again to reinstall 5.1.1 with PCC and check if that works.

My phone worked fine for a few hours after that update, then died. Could not be restarted in any way. Then took it to the store where I bought it. Of course, they couldnt get it to start either. So they sent it to repair. So let's see if they can repair it or if they have to give me a new one. I wonder if there was something strange with this software update since it happened just a few hours afterwards.

Hey Phy, thanks for looking at my issue.

I allowed the device to charge overnight and gave it a go, with the same result.
