Battery drain from Google maps

I'm now using Xperia Z and with the firmware version 10.1.1A.1.307. I found that the google map use about 60% of the battery when my phone is in idle mode. and it happens after I update to newest google map. Some people says that it's caused by enabling the location report service from google. But my friend is using HTC one and enable the location report service. But this proble doesn't happen on it. So I guess it's related to comptaitablity between google map and XZ. Any one can help me? thanks

I had similar issue with older firmware. Although it may seem a temporary fix, I stoped/cleared cache & data for google maps / location services and re-enabled them. The issue never appeared since.

well to be honest HTC ONE is not a full HD phone so i think most likely it's your screen draning the battery but thats normal with a FULL HD screen since it takes more electricity than a screen thats on HTC ONE Slightly_smiling_Face

Go to settings then location service in that turn off google location service and also turn off gps location

And even i have htc one the same problem occurred in it i turned off the above mentioned things now everything is fine

Bro HTC ONE has a full hd screen its a 4.7 inch 1080p screen

Before posting please get your facts right , that is if you don't want to be the laughed at by others

And the op never said that his screen is draining battery instead its the google maps app that is draining it

I don't want to argue but is this really your solution? I mean what is next? Turn off wifi/LTE/3G and sync? Some people buy such devices because they want to use gps all the time. STILL, 60% is abnormal, excessive and unacceptable especially if you compare it with other devices.

thank you

@hsoc that's not normal, there's an app acting up that is launching this app, try this

settings > apps > all > maps > uninstall updates and clear everything > restart your phone > open the playstore > update the app > uninstall any

taskiller

task manager

antivirus

battery apps

ram apps

booster apps

if you have any additional livewallpapers check the permissions, there are apps/games that require too many permisions, think about it, why would a wallpaper need access to your sms/mms, contacts, call logs, etc?

if that fail then repair your phone, also post screenshots, charge your phone 100% > once its down to 10% of after few hours take 5 screenshots

1) the whole list

2) the graph

3,4,5 tap on the top 3 items and take screenshots, post all 5 screenshots here.

actually for a long time GPS in mobile devices has always been a battery drain to the extent that it is one of those sevices to be used only with charger connected - this has been the same for years and hasn't changed, if you want to use the GPS function on any phone make sure you have it on a charger especially if you are using the screen also for directions and navigation

I'm talking about the google map draining battery. I'm not talking about the screen. It's easy to know how much battery use by screen and google map in the Power management in settings. I've already understood that the HD screen would draw a lot of prower since day one I use XZ. And I love the XZ and I don't have any intension to say HTC one is better. I just want to figure out a solution and if it's really a bug, I hope Sony or Google can fix it at next update.
