Hi, I have a Z3 Dual. I had it with the 5.0.2 USA rom, and then after trying all of the 5.1.1 roms, I settled for the Rusia version.
But, on 5.0.2 and 5.1.1 (Brazil and USA roms) the phone showed LTE, now in the Rusia rom, it shows 4G, is this just an icon or am I getting a different connection?
Why the change between regions/roms on the same phone?
And my question: CAN I CHANGE THAT? Is there a setting in build.prop or somewhere I can edit to make it show LTE? I must clarify that I did see LTE on this phone, in the same newtork on the same day I switched roms and started to see 4G where I saw LTE before.
But I like LTE better.... so, can I change it or is it hardcoded in the firmware?
Solved! Go to Solution.
For anyone that's interested, and I'm marking this as the solution, Gravity Box can make the change to show either 4G or LTE on Sony's 5.1.1 firmwares.
Of course, you need to be rooted and running xposed.
Kudos!
You should get 4G LTE, perhaps its a network customization / preference to use 4G instead of LTE, but it should be the same
Same network, with the same SIM on the same phone showed LTE on 5.0.2 and 5.1.1 (USA and Brazil roms) now shows 4G on 5.1.1 Rusia rom, that's why I ask if I can change it because it seems like a Sony configuration done on the firmware (changing by region)... ,oh, also same APN settings and tested in the same location... on the same day... started the day with one rom 5.0.2 showihg LTE and when rebooted the new rom 5.1.1 rusia, showed 4G
I can tell you that here in the USA the Xperia Z3 will display LTE, so that's quite odd
This depends on the firmware used, long story short - everything was called LTE which became 4G so LTE is the 1st generation of 4G and for marketing reasons the worlds governing body of communications decided that LTE and 4G could be classed as the same thing so some will use 4G and some will use LTE because they deem it better for marketing purposes so you aren't loosing anything other than the symbol used - If you were to root you could change this
Well, thanks for the clarification and, since I have root, can you guide me on how to change this 4G symbol to LTE?
I have tried an xposed module but it didn't work. Is there a setting to edit somewhere?
Thanks.
Try an app called Rom Toolbox by JRummy but the module that should work - Well it does for me running 4.4.4 is called 4g/LTE indicator switcher by hamzahrmalik
Thanks I already tried, it doesn't work. I also searched for a build.prop edit with no luck. I guess I'll just have to get used to the 4G icon.
@MasterTB When you tried the Xposed module did you reboot for the changes to take effect as mine needs to reboot before the LTE changes to 4G and vice versa
@Thommo, don't take this wrong but, don't you think that if I'm able to root, install a recovery and xposed on a 5.1.1 rom with locked bootloader I know I have to reboot for changes to take effect when running xposed modules?
Yes, I did reboot, no, it doesn't change the 4G to LTE. But don't worry I can live with it, I will keep searching on xda, maybe someone figures a way to do it or the module gets updated.
