For the past 2 months any time I receive an MMS photo the messanging app will crash. I can however send MMS photos with no problem.
I have tried clearing messaging cache, restarting messaging, reseting messaging
I have verified and reverified the MMS settings
I have done a factory reset on the phone
I have reformatted my SD card
I have done a factory reset of the phone while keeping the SD card out
I have reset the phone several times and have not used any stored memory of any kind including from apps and the memory card (which has been reformated) none of these things fix the problem. I have lost all my old messages and some other data in this process.
Please help this phone is new only purchased in November 2016. As far as I recall this was working fine before the end of January.
Hi @archnik,
After you did your resets did you test it without installing any new apps?
I recommend you try re-installing the firmware of the phone by running a software repair using Xperia Companion.
I returned my XZ.
I did all the troubleshooting down to reflashing the firmware using the recovery tool. I tried everything down to the last day before I could no longer return the device, and nothing fixed it. I even tried a different carrier sim.
I did this, re-installed the firmware by doing software repair in the companion.
After the repair, I installed nothing, the first thing I did was test the MMS it did not work, crashed each time I tried to receive an MMS. I have done this with an SD card in the phone and without an SD card in the phone.
Problem continues, any other suggestions?
That is really strange... What happens if you use a third party SMS app? Same thing?
If so, I can't think of anything else to try other than to contact your Local support team.
Have no trouble using 3rd party apps at all, but out of all the 3rd party apps I don't like any of them thus far so I gave in a returned the phone because I don't see it being fixed in the immediate future.
The problem is only with the messaging app, if I switch to another app such as hangouts the problem is gone. Do not want to use a hangouts for my text messaging.
If the issue is not resolved with a software repair and it is only happening on the messaging app it may be a bug with the version of the messaging app you are currently using. If that is the case I do not have an immediate solution for you unfortunately, but I will escalate it.
As a work around for the moment, I can only suggest you try another messaging app such as Google Messages. There are thousands of other SMS apps on the Play Store so you are sure to find something that suits you.
Can I please just check what operator you are all with? And what Android version and build number you are running? You can find this information under Settings > About Phone.
Can you also please generate a bug report?
This problem continues, I have done the steps you requested, and sent you the info about my phone by private message.
Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this problem other than using another app? I would like my new phone to work correctly, it is less than one year old.
This problem still continues, do you have a solution to this?
