Pls help me decide whether or not to buy XZ Premium

Hi,

I'm pondering over buying an XZ Premium. However, browsing relevant forums it seems there are quite a few problems with this phone? Please let me know your experience with the following issues:

1) Is the maximum volume (especially through wired headphones) really way too low?

2) Non-US versions (I'm in the UK) have fingerprint reader but many says it simply doesn't work?

3) I read many complaints that low-light photos badly lack details?

4) Intermittent/breaking up WiFi connections?

5) Completely confused about battery endurance, some says it's brilliant, others say it's terrible?

6) Some articles state that the screen always works in 4K mode. Others say it's normally full HD only, and only goes into 4K mode when watching a 4K content on Netflix or YouTube. So which is true?

Thank you

Hey i was asking the same questions a little while ago, and i did not really get any clear answers, for the most part they told me to not get this phone because it was a bit unreliable, but if you want to answer most of your questions i would suggest for you too read this post/review.

Hello IWantSunshine.

I own the xzp and this is my experience with it

1) speaker volume is low, headphones volume is loud and ok, I use Sony mdr ex650

2) the fingerprint reader is disabled for US market only, but you can re-enable it with a different firmware. Mine works perfectly 9 times out of 10 it unlocks

3) if you are interested in photo quality I suggest you read the distortion thread

4) no wifi problems here, but mine loses network connection from time to time, might be my carrier's fault

5) for me battery is good 6-7 hours screen on time with YouTube

6) the phone stays in full HD when used in normal conditions. You get 4k in album when viewing photos, videos. I haven't tried Netflix or YouTube 4k. There is an option to turn on 4k all the time but it crashes some apps as they were made to be rendered in hd.

Hope I answered your questions well.

Except the photo distortion this phone is a beast

Volume is fine with cable and Bluetooth headphones for me, the speaker itself are good but not very loud.

I would wait how android O does perform on the XZP - the Xz1 seems a more reasonable device but the XZP is already cheaper to get it seems.

1) As for me speakers are clear and loud enough. Didn't try headphones.

2) It works, but it's too sensitive to least moisture and easily stops recognizing until being dried. I often have to use pattern instead. Not perfect. It wasn't a problem on my galaxy s6.

3) Even normal-light photos are not detailed enough when taken in the superior auto mode. The manual mode seems to be ok. The distortion is there, but doesn't bother me much.

4) I experience this on large outgoing traffic (when transferring many files over Wi-Fi). And after that toggling Wi-Fi on/off causes a kernel crash (device reboots). No problems with web browsing.

5) As for me battery is good.

6) UI runs in FHD and it's not as good for me as 4k would be. The difference in font rendering is noticable (tried the adb hack).

Haters are always most vocal, it's a negative aspect of the internet unfortunately.

Answers though...

1) Is the maximum volume (especially through wired headphones) really way too low?

Through headphones I consider it plenty loud enough, then again I have no wish to become deaf

2) Non-US versions (I'm in the UK) have fingerprint reader but many says it simply doesn't work?

It's one of the fastest and most responsive readers on the market. It works, very well.

3) I read many complaints that low-light photos badly lack details?

It has enough for meDSC_7555.JPG

4) Intermittent/breaking up WiFi connections?

Seems to be dependant on connection,

5) Completely confused about battery endurance, some says it's brilliant, others say it's terrible?

It's awesome in my experience

6) Some articles state that the screen always works in 4K mode. Others say it's normally full HD only, and only goes into 4K mode when watching a 4K content on Netflix or YouTube. So which is true?

Both, the screen will always display 4k, you can see this by taking a screenshot, but in normal menus and apps is rendered in 1080p. When the phone detects media, it switches to 4k rendering.

Thank you

1) the Maximum volume through the front facing speakers is definitely low. The speakers dont have more power than my Xperia Z2s. The quality of the speakers is solid, definitely not on iPhone 7 level, but its okay. The bluetooth quality is way better compared to the iPhone.
2) Fingerprint works, its pretty reliable unless you have slightly wet fingers. Its very fast in addition.

3) When you make low light photos in Auto-mode, they do lack detail. You can improve it a bit in manual mode, especially when you have a tripod, the pictures in low light get amazing.

4) I dont have wifi problems, but I always read about wi-fi issues with every device I have.

5) Battery life is pretty solid. I NEVER had to charge it more than 1 time a day. Usually delivers juice for 1,5 days. The battery life really surprised me. Definitely not a problem (for me at least) Slightly_smiling_Face

6) 4K: Sony Album, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video; But you can enable full-time 4K (which I wouldnt recommend)
