@Sixcups tap longer on the home screen, select the cog wheel and untick hide apps icon.

yes you can tap and hold the home screen and go to setting and untick the hide app icon like alexdon says 

or 

if you like this you can go to the application sweeping up the home screen. no need application icon. 

you can use one method what ever you like
