Using pocket with 2 pcs

I use 2 computers, one at work and one at home. I have different music on each. So I wanted to put all my music on the pocket. I set it up at work and put all the music on, then installed SS at home and tried to do the same; but SS would not recognise my pocket until I re-initialized it, deleting all my music.

This sucks. Is this how Sony intended it, or have I done something wrong? Surely I should be able to use the device with more than one PC. Or is this another case of DRM gone mad (in which case it's going straight on Ebay, I have no use for an intentionally broken music player, I bought the f-'ing thing after all, it doesn't belong to Sony anymore).

Was the message like SonicStage not supporting your device or something ?

Yes, I got the same message when I first used it. Something like "This version of SonicStage not compatible with ATRAC HD device" but all I had to do was "Initialize" it in SonicStage. Unfortunately this deletes any songs on the Pocket. So when I got the same message at home, I reinitialized and lost all the songs I'd put on at work.

Am I meant to be able to use with 2 PCs?

I have the same problem and find it hard to believe that I have to delete all the songs on the device before transferring from another computer. Who are Sony to dictate how I use something that belongs to me? If this is the case, at least they could acknowledge their mess up by releasing an update. Hopefully the firmware update is only the start and that Sony will start listening to their customers instead of telling them what they want.

Does this mean that if I format my computer and reinstall windows, for example, I'll have to format also my 40gb Vaio?
Thanks.

Hey I have the 40GB version of the Vaio Pocket, I originally set up my Pocket with my Vaio laptop (PCG-K115B) which runs on the Windows XP Home Edition OS. My laptop is laden with faults and has been recently shipped off to Belgium (yes, Belgium) for repair! My desktop ran on the Windows 98 OS. Because my Pocket would only run on XP or 2000 i decided to install XP over my Windows 98 so that I did not rely so consistently on my laptop. And guess what people? My Vaio Pocket works fine on both. May I suggest that you run setup first from the CD without downloading the updates or connecting the Pocket to the PC. After doing this reboot the PC and download/install the updates (Sonic Stage 2.3 etc) and then try connecting your Pocket. This wored perfectly for me so good luck!:smileyhappy:
