ultra dma 66 ide cable Sony vaio rx 305

I am thinking about replacing the old Pioneer dvr-104 with a the fastest DVR-109 dvd+/-rw burner.

http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/computer/dvdwriters/dvr109/

It states :

To achieve the specified writing and reading performance it is important that the DVR-109 is connected to the IDE port via an 80 way ribbon cable and that the IDE port is at least UDMA 66 or above

How do I know if my Sony RX 305 has an 80 way ribbon cable, and does it support UDMA 66???

Please reply asap

UDMA-66

that is UDMA 5 or ATA-100

click:

1. systemconfigure
2. system
3. hardware
4. devices managers
5. IDE/ ATAPI -Controller
6. primary IDE-channel
7. extended configure

and say me, what for a UDMA mode you use. (it must be UDMA 5)
PIO is the slowest.

but excuse, I have a german Win XP

It says ultra dma mode 5 under the primary IDE channel

it says ultra dma mode 2 under the secondary IDE channel

The primary IDE channel is used from your harddisc.
And the secondary IDE channel is used from your Pionier drive.

I have the same settings. That is the maximal speed, that you can get on your system.

I think it's no problem to upgrade your drive.

If your system use lower UDMA settings, it's no problem too.
But you can't use the full speed of the Drive or harddisk.

Try PIO on your Harddisc, and you see what I mean.:smileywink:

So will I be able to use the Pioneer DVR 109 at full speeds when burning? What drive do you have?

here are exampels about PIO and UDMA

but excuse, it is a little bit confuse

PIO (mode 0 - 4) = mode 4 is the fastest, and use theoretically 16,6 MB/s

ATA 4, UDMA/33 or UDMA 2 (that's all the same) = max. speed is theoretically 33 MB/s

ATA 5, UDMA/66 or UDMA 5 (that's all the same) = max. speed is theoretically 66,6 MB/s

other standarts are ATA 6 (100MB/s) or S-ATA (150MB/s)

to your question:

here is a Link to the specification of the Pionier drive.

Yes it's in german, But look at the Burn speed and you see what I mean.
( DVD-R 16X burn speed = 22,16MB/s)

No problem,

But look not only on the burn speed. Other specification (like the Buffer size) are more importantly.:smileyshame_on_you:

8MB is the absolutely minimum for a DVD burner.
