What nodel Vaio do you have?

Settings for the Touchpad are usually made from within Vaio Control Centre and there are many more functions these days that sometimes add to touchpad problems.

Your Vaio's User Guide should help.

I cannot find a way to download the User Guide -- have tried following the instructions on Vaio Manual to go to Vaio Update etc, but cannot see anywhere to download the User Guide.

I feel the User Guide would be a big help in teaching me how to handle the touchpad

If you tell us which model you have, we can give you a link to download the User Guide.

Now I understand why you can't find the User Guide.  You are quoting an invalid model type - you are probably using the chassis code on the bottom of the Vaio which is often shared by several models..

Is there a model type starting with VPCxxxxxx - usually on the screen surround?

Found it!  The other was after the word "Model" on the base of the computer.

VPCEE3EOE

(I was not even at the stage of quoting a number.   Vaio Manual said to go to Vaio Update and follow on screen instructions -- I could not see any!

Also said confirm check box for user guide and click download -- could not find any of this either!

Asked someone else and they had the same problem)

Anyway if it can be done another way -- great!

Thank you for this -- at last I have a manual to consult.

Think I am using the touch pad appropriately, but will review when I am next word processing, or emailing, a lengthy article.

Would be interesting to learn why the original advice I received via Vaio Manual did not work.

It would indeed be interesting to learn why the advice originally given did not work. I take it that the "Vaio Manual" referred to is "User Guide - Introduction Version", which resided on the hard drive of your VAIO at new.

I was also confused by the reference in the intro guide to a check box, which I could not find on the VAIO Update utility either. Maybe VAIO Update was updated to remove the check box but the intro guide was not updated to reflect this. Although I did manage to obtain the full manual this discrepancy regarding the check box does still exist and should be put right, to avoid confusion among future VAIO users.

As well as not incorporating any check box for downloading the full user manual, it appears that the HELP button on the VAIO Update window does not work, making it not possible to access the help file. Perhaps an update to VAIO Update to address both these issues is in order?
