One third of the screen is normal with the remainder blurred and with green /black vertical lines. Any one know what the problem cud be?

Hi asahmed84,
As the external display works that would rule out a graphics chip or driver problem. That leaves a faulty screen or associated cabling.
The good news is that a new LCD display will cost you less than a new motherboard.
phone Sony Support if isin garantie
unfortunatly its not under guarantee. If i can identify the problem then i can decide if its worth the repair.
Hi asahmed84,
Does the display exhibit the same problem on the BIOS screen and in Safe Mode? Tap F2 at boot, when you see the Vaio logo to enter the Bios, F8 to select Safe Mode.
You could also try attaching an external monitor. If this works OK then it would point to an LCD screen problem.
Thnx for that suggestion rich912. As i cant shut down windows properly due to the screen problem the laptop restarts with windows error recovery. I therefore cant start in safe mode.I press the f8 key but nothing happens. I guess i will hav to connect it to a monitor. What concerns me is when i google this there r som who r saying it cud b a graphic card or motherrboard problem. That wud mean mega bucks for repair.
Unfortunately the graphics card is part of the motherboard and hence a very expensive repair. You could have a word with one of Sony’s service partners to get an idea of cost.

Let us know the results of attaching an external monitor.
Thnx for the suggestion Rich912. I conected it to the monitor and it displays all fine. Does this mean its a faulty screen?
