Hi Luca,

I know it is no consolation to you but this just seems to be a problem with the N21-Series Vaios when trying to use the XP drivers for the N11-Series. Other models seem to be OK.

We have seen other members here with the Memory Parity Error. Unfortunately, it can be caused by lots of things, some of which have nothing to do with memory.

My guess would be a resource conflict between your system devices. Go to Device Manager and click on 'View' in the top menu bar. Choose 'Devices by Connection' and look at the IRQ section. See what is sharing the same IRQ and if any conflicts are reported.

If Sony are unable to find the cause, all you can do is uninstall each device in turn and reboot and hope that XP will reallocate the IRQ and remove any conflict.

Other than that, we are probably in Sony's hands - but it seems that they don't know what is causing this problem themselves. This sort of risk is always possible when you try to use an operating system that has not been tested on a particular model.

Hi, I have the exact same problem. I also have a VGN-N21S/W, and was not really happy with the performance under Vista. It was failing managing files on the hard drive (COM surrogate service crashes), and was troubling to share folders with an XP station, so finally i installed an XP pro. On that moment, and because on vaio-link there were ONLY the Vista drivers :anguished: , i was forced to spent several hours looking for the hardware drivers. Till now i still have missing the massive storage controller (the intel driver doesn't seem to work), and off course i cannot make work the Fn Keys for volume, brightness, etc, or the power management. I tried installing the preinstalled utilities for Vista, but obviously, they don't work. When I enter in the power management tab the app crashes. Luca: can you tell me witch driver did you use for the massive storage?
Somebody have managed to get a preinstalled Vista fully work under XP? I was thinking on try the preinstalled utilities for a Vaio with a similar hardware (wich one?) that came with XP preinstalled. ¿Any ideas? Or there's nothing to do, and we're condemned to use Vista?
Thanks everyone!

I'm aswering myself. I tried with the apps and drivers from the VGN-N11S/W, and they worked for the power management, the Fn keys and the touchpad driver!! :dizzy:
The only driver i'm missing so far is the massive storage controller.
Also i noticed that the system reboots closing the vaio, instead of going to whatever configuration, but i'm guessing that's caused by any difference in the hardware....¿or not? somebody sort it out?
Thx!!

It's all very good people writing pertitions for this and that, but they have to realise that Windows XP is going to become obsolete in 2008. Now I'm not saying it's right, I think it's wrong myself, but Sony are like fashon experts, they only follow trends, so if Vista is the new hot thing they'll follow it to the end, even if it's not the right thing to do.

I think they need to look at this like DeLL did with Vista, they did a U turn and I respect them for this. Sony have to realise it's not just multimediaphiles who use these machines but business types, they even market them for the business market. I doubt that bosses will run to Vista with open arms.

I don't think the pertition will help change much, they're are very much one track minded.

No, it should not do it.
When I installed the Vaio Control Center, I had my FN keys working and battery compinations too.
But you have to wait by Vaio comes back from assistance for further information.
Anyway I am selling it and I am going to buy a Dell.

Bye
