Optical drive problem

I have a PCG-FR415S notebook and it's been great... until now that is. The optical drive has decided that it can only read DVDs which it does fine. It tries really hard to read other discs, but can't. I've had a look in the BIOS and reset the defaults, and tried to reinstall the drivers (successfully), but it still won't work. I'm loathe to reformat without trying something else first, does anyone have any ideas that don't involve giving 300 quid to Sony? :slight_frown:

I would try a reformat, but before you do have you installed Nero?

Thanks for the tip, but no Kee-Lo, I haven't installed Nero. I haven't installed anything recently, which is why I was a bit surprised when the drive let me down. Do you reckon a reformat might sort my problem out?

I suppose I'll just have to get on with it then. I'll let you know the outcome...

It might help.

Thanks for the help Kee-Lo, but on reformat it turned out to be dead. Thank god for the partitioned drive. I guess I'll be adding an external drive once the internal's been fixed.

Thanks again.

If it's under warranty I would have it fixed, because later on it'll cost > £500
