You can download all drivers from the VAIO-Link (but this site doesn't work today, I don't know why).

If you wan't install Linux on your system?

Linux recognizes the Harddware automatically. You must only configure the Network card and the craphicscard. (and other external Hardware)

You must make this with YAST (that is the configuration tool from Linux)

But, a Sony VAIO has a poor basic, for a Linux system.

The vaio link drivers will not work for linux. have a look at:
http://www.linux-laptop.net/
http://tuxmobil.org/
as a starting point. I am running fedora core 3 on my FX 601, basically because i had enough of all the updates, bugfixes, adware, viruses.......

its working fine so far, hibernating is still not working, and for sure the winmodem, but i dont use either of those.

its a lot of work to tune a linux system to your needs, but compared to a winxp installation from scratch its not much of a difference.
The real pain for me with linux are things like firewire hd and mp3 players (my ipod works, but gtkpod is not to be compared with itunes)

do a little research on linux and your vaio and you will probably find somebody who has already installed linux on his vaio and can help you with some issues.

generally spoken linux on laptops is not pain free and needs more work than a desktop installation, but nevertheless it is possible.

yep, well said SilverZero

As I used LinuxPro 9.1, I have missed my MemoryStick slot. And not only ACPI, APM has doesn't worked too. And the fan runs every time with 100%:smileysad: . May be problems like these are fixed today.

But I found this here .

I think, if you want to build a Linux system. Have a look to this link.

As Silver said it's not out of the question, it's just going to require patience and someone who's good with Linux.
