FS115B : Brightness control not working

hey all, I got my new laptop a couple of weeks ago and the other day the brightness control stopped working. I still get the display that says what the new level is, and the beep, but there is no actual brightness change.

i've searched the news groups and google but no hope. Its a pain because it's stuck on level 3 😞

Hope someone has some answers

Hi rabbit, welcome to the ClubVAIO.

Sorry, I have no idea.
Have you this problem only with the brightness controll? What is with the volume controll?

Use the FS series a shortcut for the brightness controll? (Fn button)
Works the other shortcuts?

Yeah, the volume works fine. Biazarely the fn button for the brightness does show the display on the screen - but the brightness doesn't actually change.

Is this likely to be a software or hardware issue?

hi, rabbit

Use your FS a automatically brightness controll?
When yes, may be you must deactivate this before.

Hi

I dont know if this will help but it may be worth a try:
Open the Power logo at the bottom right. (Sorry I dont know the correct term) - it says adjust power properties.
Then in Power Options Properties open Vaio Power Management
Click Advanced, then tick Enable Vaio Power Management -then OK.
Now you should be able to change the levels manually, I hope. My settings are Vaio Optimised, LCD brightness level 8 -plugged in.
Good Luck

Thanks all, I've tried all this. The power management is all setup properly. Last week it was working fine, with automatic + manual mode working together.

I have a bad feeling its something to do with windows update or something like that. I'm not sure if the VAIO software is running properly.

Has no one else had this problem?

if u tryed reinstilling the software that is used to control that then i would recomend system restore.

If by `windows update¿ you mean that you recently installed SP2, then you could always try uninstalling the service pack and see if it makes any difference.

Man, this is such a pain. I've got tonnes of work to do and need this laptop for it.

I've tried reinstalling all the Sony software but it doesn't seem to have helped.

I've noticed I no longer get the battery/cable icon in the task bar even though it's turned on in the control panel, so I think the problem is definitely to do with the power management programs... I'll try and role windows update back (there were some security releases this week) and see what happens.

Such a pain.

Ok, I've tried a few more things. System Restore seems to have got my power-management icon back. But so far the brightness still doesn't change :slight_frown:
