Battery

Just bought a vaio. When I turn on after being shut down the battery is down to 83% even though it was fully charged when shut down. This has happened over short periods -12 hours. Is this normal or is the battery faulty? any advice appreciated.

i think that the way you charge the battery for the 1st time is very important,
from my knowledge the battery comes unstable when u charge it at any time and without reason.
the best way to keep your battery at full health is to recharge completely (better results-change the option of power to max battery then make lcd switch off at 1 minute and let it uncharge without interupt your vaio at all)
now the difficult part, use a lamp 12v to squezze battery for 2 hours and then charge your vaio for a full 24hour switched off!!
you will see your battery comes to life again!

With all due respects what your saying does NOT make any sense....!

Hi Thalamus, After replacing all 3 Batteries i decided to run some test myself. Here is what i found.. 2 was ran without B/C, and 1 was ran with B/C for a week.. Clearly the one with the B/C option ended up faulty.. The second week i decided to run another with B/C again ended up with Faulty battery.. my 3rd which i have not used the B/C function on is still going strong 3 weeks later. So Thalamus in my book i am adamant that Battery care is causing this problem.. For me anyway.. I have reported this to Sony and they have had no problems in replacing 5 Batteries for me now (3 from start of problem 2 after testing, which suggests to me that they no something about this problem...!

Thanks for the info fyew-jit-iv, have Sony offered to investigate this further for you.?

Hi Thalamus, Yes i have a case number and awaiting some feedback.. I have been talk to some people in regards to batteries in general, and what I'm understanding now is its best to drain your battery once a week completely (using the laptop with normal usage) in order to maximize its life expectancy.
P.s Anyone who tries to drain the battery using any other method please keep it to yourselves as your method will only VOID your warranty with Sony. BE WARNED.

Hi fyew-jit-iv,

you may find the following links on How to prolong lithium-based batteries and If I remove the battery & run from a power source will it lengthen battery life? of interest..

As to your open case, with Sony support, would you kindly keep me informed on the progress please, to save you searching for this thread it may be easier to do this via Private Message, use the following link: PM Thalamus

Thanks

I'd really like to get people's thoughts on this. I have the same problem with my vaio P series, it looses about 30% of its charge over night when it is completely turned off. Sony support state that I should expect this to happen. In fact their official line was that a battery in a sony laptop drains between a fifth to a quarter of the power that it uses when turned on when its turned off. Interestingly speaking to their sales team, this isnt the case and a sony laptop shouldn't lose any charge when its turned off.

If that makes any sense Sony told me that if your battery life is two hours you should expect that from fully charged it will drain completely in ten hours even when the unit is turned off.

Have you heard the same?
