Battery

Just bought a vaio. When I turn on after being shut down the battery is down to 83% even though it was fully charged when shut down. This has happened over short periods -12 hours. Is this normal or is the battery faulty? any advice appreciated.

Hi Steve,

welcome to Club VAIO..

When you boot up your Vaio and the battery displays 83% are you running on AC power or battery.?

Hi steve608,

then I would expect the drain on your battery is due to power used in starting up your Laptop..

What vaio u using fella...? I have a few new vaio's (work reasons) i have just reported to sony that the battery care function is flawed...! It ruined 3 batteries on 3 different laptops. So if your using this function i suggest you turn if off before it damages your battery

Hi fyew-jit-iv,

why do you suspect the battery care function has ruined the batteries.

Actually I am experiencing the same issue with my VAIO.

Doesn't matter if I choose to hibernate or shutdown, after 8 hours (the period of time I am sleeping) the battery is running lower than before. I use the Battery Care software with the Super Battery Care setting which limits the battery charge to 50%, in the morning it's in the 35-40's even with me plugging the laptop to AC power before I start it.

I suspect it could be due to wake-on-lan being enabled but there's no BIOS option to disable it nor in Window's device manager..

I have an AR51SU and if I leave the battery in when it is switched off it will lose about 17% charge overnight - even if it is plugged in when I restart it. Sony reckons that's perfectly normal. I don't! I take out the battery every time I turn it off. Battery doesn't discharge very much at all that way.

Hi Thalamus, After replacing all 3 Batteries i decided to run some test myself. Here is what i found.. 2 was ran without B/C, and 1 was ran with B/C for a week.. Clearly the one with the B/C option ended up faulty.. The second week i decided to run another with B/C again ended up with Faulty battery.. my 3rd which i have not used the B/C function on is still going strong 3 weeks later. So Thalamus in my book i am adamant that Battery care is causing this problem.. For me anyway.. I have reported this to Sony and they have had no problems in replacing 5 Batteries for me now (3 from start of problem 2 after testing, which suggests to me that they no something about this problem...!

i think that the way you charge the battery for the 1st time is very important,
from my knowledge the battery comes unstable when u charge it at any time and without reason.
the best way to keep your battery at full health is to recharge completely (better results-change the option of power to max battery then make lcd switch off at 1 minute and let it uncharge without interupt your vaio at all)
now the difficult part, use a lamp 12v to squezze battery for 2 hours and then charge your vaio for a full 24hour switched off!!
you will see your battery comes to life again!
