Howdy Folks,
I have the Sony Bravia KDL-50W829B and hoping someone can help me on this
I play Blu-rays and DVD's through my PS3 connected to the TV
(via HDMI with output on PS3 set to 1080p)
When I play a Standard DVD it plays perfectly and full screen on the TV
When I play a Blu-ray Disc it does not
The Blu-ray menu does appear full fcreen but once you click play the movie is captioned both Top and Bottom
I have played with the Screen Format in settings Wide/Normal/Full/Zoom/Captions but none of these work..
Anyone come across this before
Thanks,
Paul
Hi,
when you say captioned do you mean black bars top and bottom of screen?, if so this is perfectly normal as the player is playing the movie in its correct aspect ratio.
Hi Thanks for reply,
Yes the caption is black bar top and bottom.
Two questions:
1) How come this does not happen on standard definition movies, SD displays full screen, but Blu-Ray is captioned?
2) Is there a way to remove caption on blu-ray? For a good action movie I would like to get full screen on my 50"
If I use the zoom option on the TV itself, it cuts too much fo the movie off.
Thanks
Hi there
If it is indeed the aspect ratio as Bravia55HX said above, heres a good explaination :
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SQjX6PZWBcP/learn/learningcenter/home/aspect_ratio.html
The only thing you can do is experiment with the various screen formats on the TV:
http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/14HE468111/EN/c_dispsnd_europe_ga_sformat.html
As well as the Video Settings on the PS3:
http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/bdsettings.html#852
However, you mentioned about SD video, on the DVD/BD Upscaler setting on the PS3, it states:
"This option can only be used when the video being played is in SD resolution and the video output setting of the PS3™ system is set to 1080p or 1080i."
Hopefully this answers your questions.
Cheers
PS: Personally I hate having the image stretched and "played" with, Id rather the black bars and everything in the correct dimentions
Standard DVD will look full screen, Blu Rays will have black bars top and bottom you can change or zoom in as you said but will ruin the look and feel of the movies, you will get used to viewing the movies this way
Thanks for the replies everyone - that makes sense,
I think i'll still with the captions to keep the full 1080p quality so
Cheers
