Apps do not run until I run "refresh internet content" - KDL-32WD751

The TV connects to the internet fine. I have setup the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. However, the apps will not run until I run "refresh internet content" after initial power on. I took the TV to the store I purchased it from and the apps run without needing to run "refresh internet content". Can I make a settings change to the TV or my router which will allow the apps to run without this annoying step.

I use a static IP address for the TV and have the router also use the same DNS settings. None of that made any difference.

Thanks in advance

Good news. The problem has been fixed.

I just went through the router settings fiddling. I noticed that the DHCP settings was set to “manually configure DNS” and when I changed this to automatically, it started to work properly. I had also set the TV back to DHCP. The DNS is set on the TV to the default gateway. The DNS on the router is set to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4.

I have no idea why this resulted in the behaviour it did.

Thanks for everyone's help

Hi,

Please ensure that the latest software is installed on your TV.

You can find the latest software at sony.co.uk/support.

Cheers

If you connect the TV to a different network, does the same thing happen?

I connected to the WiFi in the shop I purchased the tv and it worked fine without the need to “refresh internet content”.

I discussed with Sony technical support and Talktalk. They both argued it was not them.
Sony: It worked in another setup so not the tv. Must be the ISP.

Talktalk: by running a setup on your tv without any changes to the router it starts working so it must be your tv.

The truth is that it is a system and could still be either or both and so it would have helped if Sony and Talktalk were more open to further investigation.
What does “refresh internet content” do in detail? How does that differ from what is done on a normal power on?

Refresh Internet Content basically taps into the servers to update all of the apps at once.

It might be an out of date software version (latest is v8.219), or it might be the changing dynamic IP so you can try reaching out to Talktalk and setting up a static IP for the TV.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for you comment Joe. The firmware is up-to-date and the TV has a static IP address already.

Meant to add that “refresh internet content” must be doing something to the connection to make it work.

I would really enjoy a chat with a Sony TV design engineer to work through the problem. I have no doubt if we could fix this it would improve Sony TVs (oh and help me too 🙂 )
