The star symbol sounds like it's is the symbol for priority only. To disable this press the volume up key on the side of your phone, then tap sound or silent to leave priority.
About the "square with 2rs" is I'm afraid I don't know, would you be able to share a screenshot of it? To take a screen shot, press and hold the power key on the side of your phone, then tap Take screenshot.
