XH95 Sony Select

When I go to Sony Select  Top Features and click on BBC iplayer nothing happens.

I have clicked on others such as NOW TV and prime video and they install and are able to be opened.

Anyone have a solution for this.

My previous Sony KDL-805C did not have this problem

Still no luck getting this sorted.

What I've tried so far.

Remove power source and leave for 5 mins. No difference

Cleared the cache on Sony Select. No difference

Removed  Google account and turned off TV and signed in again. No difference

Running out of ideas, any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried opening the YouView app? The iPlayer is part of that feature.

Don't seem to have youview app.

Googling implies it has been discontinued. Something about a BT TV app as an alternative.

My confusion. I see you meant the Sony YouView.

I need an aerial to access that, which I don't have. I cannot remember the last time I watched FTA broadcasts.

The Sony BBC iplayer should work without YouView.

@kevinayers

I would expect the BBC iPlayer to be on the TV already somewhere, which is why a new install apparently does nothing. Have a hunt around for it.

While YouView brings with it the itv Hub and All4, which do need a broadcast tuning of the associated channels to have been done first, the BBC iPlayer and Demand 5 are supplied independently of YouView, and should work as per Kevin’s expectations; i.e. to be present, and not to need him to jump through any YouView hoops.

My favourite bedtime reading is a Sony product manual…

Although the youview tie is stronger for itv and ch4 the standard things to try are re run initial setup or a factory reset which you may not want to do

If you are ok sideloading apps there are shortcut apps I can sideload on my XF. Not sure if they work on the xh but you will have another copy of iplayer outside of sony select if you try that - app is on github under hoshsadiq

I recently bought a 65XH9005 so my experience with this model is rather limited. My previous TV was an 65XF9005 so I am familiar with Android TVs and the XF9005 worked fine.

I think on the XH9005 somehow Sony made iPlayer dependent on having Youview installed. My iPlayer just hung at the loading prompt. Also, My5 would not play specific episodes of some series of one program even though you could see the icons for all episodes. I think when I first run the setup on XH9005 I decided to reject T&C and disable Youview as I prefer the built in TV Guide screen. I never used Youview on the XF9005 either. Anyway a few days ago I ran the setup and accepted Youview and iPlayer burst into life and those My5 episodes would play. But the TV Guide in Youview came active. IMHO Youview guide is inferior for planning your nights viewing. So last night I had another trawl through the TV settings and changed what the TV Button does from catch up+digital to only digital and it killed the Youview TV guide. I cant find any reference to the Youview app anywhere in settings so I have no idea if it even installed/un-installed or running in the background.

Why do Sony make this so difficult?

If you've tried re running the initial setup and accepting all Sony and youview Ts and Cs without success then I think the sideloaded apps now work on 2020 TVs so you could try those
