I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
Hi,
I too have the following issues with my BRAVIA TV KDL-50W805C
1. Youtube videos or any other videos for that matter streamed from an Ipad or another Android device are out of synch for a good 30-40 seconds.
2. No HDD recording is possible till date even after 4 software updates. It states a software update is required.
3. Whenever a channel is changed to a new channel, it changes to the new channel immediately but the channel then goes off and then on after a few seconds following the change. i am not sure if anyone else has noticed this problem.
4. Prior to the software updates, I could easily play videos from USB hard drives (network drives). The only problem was that I had to play individual videos one by one unlike HX823 wherein all the videos can be played one after the other. Now after the 4 softwares updates by Sony, only one of the videos is played. After that I have to go back to the root directory and then navigate once again to the correct folder to play the next song. There is also no provision of creating a play list.
5. When I play Youtube videos the only good thing about it is that, it plays in HD and plays it one after the other. It also remembers the favourites. The only problem is that some of the vidoes could not be played since the "safety lock is enabled". I could not figure a way to disable the safety lock.
6. I have connected a sound system to the TV via HDMI. When the TV is switched on it takes a good 15 seconds for the sound system to be turned on. And when the TV is turned off the sound system turns off immediately but the TV takes longer to turn off.
I received this TV in exchange for a faulty Bravia 46HX 823 (The fault being the USB hard drive not working and the Wifi not working!!). It took Sony 2.5 months to give me a replacement TV and during this time I was without a TV. Hence if I send this TV back I am not sure how long they will take to give me a replacement.
Any advise will be appreciated.
Another issue that should not be overlooked is the no show of the " Picture And Picture" feature (PAP" which is listed clearly on the Sony specification sheet. i know on my model (43W8309) there is no way of activating this feature and unlike the HDD recording issue which Sony acknowledges will be activated with a software update they do not mention anything regarding the "PAP" feature.
Hi Guys,
Just a small update from my side.
I heard we are planning an update to be released next week somewhere.
I will start chasing on what will be added/improved.
In terms of PIP/PAP I know the feature is to be added via update as well. Don't know exactly when though so will try and find out.
Please bare with me.
Cheers
Nico
Nico,
I think Sony will do a lot of people a huge favor when you enable 5.1 support for apps like netflix and digital tv (ARC) and fix the hdmi issues (no input error and stuff).

Hi Michiel,
I agreee the HDMI and 5.1 are core features for users who would purchase this range of TV and should be prioritised..along with the sound delay issues as this is just plain annoying
And the slow-as-hell guide.
The TV shouldn't cut out for three seconds when you hit the guide button. And it shouldn't take that long to change the channel.
Having finally got the last firmware installed (2257), I'm now suffering frequent resets, i.e. every 30mins or so the TV switches off and restarts it self (Sony logo, android balls etc.)
Very annoying. It was fine on the previous version. This feels like a step backwards.
Keep the updates coming please.....
