Poor location reporting on 5ii

Apologies, can't seem to post pics AND text together.
I am loving the upgrade to the 5ii from my old ZX. The only query is the poor location history/reporting. Both my XZ and the 5ii have the same settings as far as I can tell. The 5ii has location reporting set to the same best performance setting but shows far worse results. Quite often I will reach a destination and it will still say I am at home. It will only show the next location once I have reached somewhere else. Sometimes, it will not show them at all (see timeline picture) where in that instance, Google Maps said I had never left home. Only when I changed the time I left home did all my stops correctly show however the actual places needed to be manually input. On my ZX, it would best guess where I went and show them within minutes of arriving and going on walks would show the route we took rather than being a pure triangle.
The poor reporting can also be seen in the other two images, one on the 5ii where it was in my pocket and the second, the return journey, when it was giving directions using Maps navigation. The second shows the route far more clearly. My old XZ is still in use (on the same network so not affected by data issues) and it showed the same accurate reporting on the same return journey even though it was not being used as navigation. My journeys home from work often show me skipping across fields in straight lines and missing whole sections of motorway and I might often show as still being at work as I walk through the door. I am sure I saw a setting on my old XZ which altered how often a location is reported but cannot find it on Android 11. Is there a setting I have missed?

Did you try to do the GPS test from the support app on the device ?

Yes, that passed with flying colours. So too does any navigation I choose. It seems be a issue with reporting location infrequently. I'm sure on the old phone I was able to manually adjust this interval to every few seconds but cannot find this on the new phone. If it records my location once every minute or so, at 70mph on the motorway I end up cutting a lot of corners and when I go for a walk, I zigzag across fields rather than move in neat lines (and "walk" a very inaccurate amount).

I see.
Why don't you try to do the steps in this link, they might help: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/mobile-phones-tablets/articles/00232845

The issue was present right at the start from the box at first set up so I can't see a factory reset will achieve anything. There is no fault with the software but rather the number of times the phone reports its location. The phone has been restarted several times since and all software and apps are fully up to date.

So if it is not a software issue, is it hardware ?
