You can probably expect it to be weeks, if not months behind other countries, particularly if you have an unlocked Z. I'm on an unlocked C6603, and it's still on the 10.1.A.1.434 build (checked for updates through PCC and SUS).

So it's now 3 builds and months away from the current release, and no indication that anything will be reaching it soon.

A real shame, but it seems to be par for the course with Sony; great devices but a terrible approach to handling updates even on SIM-free and unlocked handsets. Ironic, as the reason I shelled out the extra for SIM-free was to have a better shot at getting updates.

Still, what can you do... I suspect if we (UK unlocked) customers get the usual silent treatment for another month or so, I'll end up either selling my XZ, or rooting and installing CyanogenMod or something like that. Another possibility to consider is using flashtool and installing one of the other updated ROMs from another country, or changing your build.prop to mimic another carrier.

Either way, I'd never buy a Sony device again. I know it's "just" an update and the phone still works as it did when I got it, but frankly Sony are going to have to significantly up their game if they expect to reclaim any kind of market leadership. It's a different environment now, people expect updates and good after-sales support / customer care. If you've owned HTC, Samsung and Apple kit before, your expectations have been raised and Sony (at least in the UK) just isn't cutting it.

Couldn't agree more.

Not only what you said - but also up their game on communication.

"No information" & a link to a blog (which would more helpful if it linked to the actual info) doesn't cut it either.

IPOF - http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/software/phones/xperia-z/ which would be a more useful link still lists 4.10.1.1.A.1.253 as the latest version - though NOBODY in the UK has received that either!

What frustrates people more than anything is KNOWING that updates are available (or should be) whilst the manufacturer (in this case Sony) either deny all knowledge or refuse to comment on the matter.

And the fact that - if the last paragraph is taken into account - we, the customers, feel like we're being treated like idiots when we ask legitimate questions regarding what, for many, are extremely expensive purchases.

Even if I am not from the uk I do not understand sony policy and treatment... They should give a detailed answer WHY these updates are not yet in uk... People ask = they should receive the answer, or at least official statement... Redirecting to official blog is useless, what's the point when there is no any answer to the thread on this blog??? Why are you still forcing people to this blog when there is nothing that can help? There is nothing useful for uk and other users in there...

Sony has enough power and money to IMPROVE their server at last... If you don't know what stands behind all this selective updates, for different countris = it is the money, they simply do not want to invest in more / new serwers that would bring faster updates and user experience.

That is the point.

Agreed. Anyway, I've learned my lesson and will check more carefully before I buy my next piece of technology how the manufacturer responds to updates.

It's a fundamentally different world now, and the days of feature phones which never needed or got updates are long behind us. Apart from anything else, these are complex devices and need frequent bug fixes, security updates and so on. If a manufacturer can't deliver updates after a sale in a timely manner (or at least provide decent communication), then they should be discounted from your purchasing decisions.

That goes for phones, tablets, computers, Smart TVs... Hell, even things like pro audio studio equipment needs constant patching and updating these days. Just because the manufacturer has got my money through a sale, it doesn't mean that they don't still have to make an effort to interact with me. If they don't, well... I'll just go elsewhere, and won't purchase or recommend their products in future.

But while it's hard not to feel slighted at being treated badly after shelling out a substantial amount of cash, at least there are alternatives and it is *just* a phone, after all. There are more important things in life, and like I say, next time I'll choose a little more carefully.

Very, very true.

As you infer - Sony, and other manufacturers fail to take into account the negative impact that lack of customer support brings.

For example - when I first got the XZ (my first Sony / Ericsson for many years) I was almost certain to get the Z Tablet for Christmas.

Now - I just received a tweet (on my HTC One - as Socialife on the ZX is useless) about the new Xperia Z Ultra.

My reaction - "yeah, right".

And all because of the complete failure to either act upon or communicate regarding the fiasco that has been the firmware updates for the ZX UK.

HTC themselves suffered terribly because of a perceived lack of timely updates - something they still need to work on - and Sony are going the same way.

Will they ever learn?

We're now rolling out the 4.2.2 update for Sony Xperia Z / ZL

It may not be available for all countries/operators yet but try updating using PC Companion/Update service.

Availability and rollout timing will vary by market and customer variants

For further questions regarding this update for your specific market I recommend you to contact your local support:

What is the point of us in the UK trying to update using PC Companion/Update Service when the update itself hasn't been brought out in the UK it will just keep telling us we have the most recent firmware.

Stop using generic answers and be straight with us.  Give us a date when it will be rolled out in the UK for both locked and unlocked mobiles or are we just being ignored.

he is saying 4.2.2 is being released so once UK operators recives 4.2.2 they will publish it to your phone so dont blame sony on it.
