Screen Timeout

Hello! The camera app on my Z3 times out, and the camera app closes and returns me to the main screen, after 30 seconds. Sometimes that isn't long enough -- I'm waiting for a specific thing to happen that I want to photograph, like the start of a sporting event, and reopening the camera app is a pain. Is there any way to change the timeout time?

Hi,

That is correct. If you open the camera with the quick launch button or from the locked screen, it will close automatically after 30 seconds. And if you open it manually without the quick launch button, it will be open for 3 minutes.

I don't know the reason for this, but perhaps it can be related to if you press the quick launch button by mistake in the pocket, the camera should not be on for a longer time and drain battery/heat the phone etc. And also, the quick launch function is made to capture a photo fast. If you tap the display within these 30 seconds you can have the camera function on for a longer time, but there are no settings to change this time.

There shouldn't be a timeout when you are in camera,normally it should stay until you take a shot. Can you check how it is in safe mode?

Also try to clear camera's cache:

- Go to Settings -> Apps -> All -> Camera-> Clear cache and restart your phone.

I've noticed this when the phone is locked and you open the camera feature with the camera button or from the lock screen. I have not found a setting to change this either in the display settings nor the camera app.

@Dark_Xperian so this occurs only from lock screen or locked state?

@alexdon,

At least for me, yes. OP, can you confirm?

It happens to me both when I start the camera from a live screen and when I start from the lock screen.

I just checked, though, and it only happens when I start with the quick launch button, not when I start the app from the onscreen icon. Camera has now been open for two and a half minutes without shutting.

I'll try restarting later today -- actually using my phone for a conference call at the moment 🙂

In this case,there is no setting to change that. I believe it has to do with the fact that your phone is actually locked so someone else won't be able to use it too much.

I could recreate that, startig the camera from Quick Launch button will close the camera after 30 seconds of inactivity.
