Easy one (I think).

What are the differences between the 4 resolution options in the settings for the camera and what is the best default setting to have it at?

I have noticed that mine has always been at 8MP (16.9).

I find best details at 2MP. But since that resolution is too low for nowadays photos I stick with 8MP, at the current Sony firmware, is working much better than 20/23MP. (This is a problem that needs to be fixed, photos should have same details in 2MP/8MP/23MP). 23MP is totally useless at the moment.
