@toph accidental damage I'm afraid, as @najodleglejszy has already suggested it probably won't be covered by warranty. If you do not use a cover then I'm afraid no matter how careful you are scratches will happen, if you want to keep seeing the chrome I would suggest either a clear case or perhaps fitting a clear protector to the back.
