Can't connect to local public WiFi

For about 3 months now my sony xz has been unable to connect to my local public wifi connection.( I use security software to avoid hacking),When I try to connect it attempts to connect  and goes through the stage of obtaining ip address and connecting, and as the sign in to wifi prompt appears it stops connecting and shows "no internet connection detected will not automatically reconnect". I have tried rebooting phone , turning wifi off and back on to no avail. My work colleague also connects to the same public wi fi and his phone connects successfully every time. I upgraded my phone for the last 2 software updates on the weekend just gone, but it still doesnt connect.  My home wifi connection is fine,no problem.Can someone please help me.

Yes i can connect using my plans data. But that is limited and would run out if I left data on by end of 2 weeks

That wasn't my question, you said that you are using some sort of "software", I'm assuming an app to protect your private info, uninstall it and test it.

I am using mcafee security for mobiles. Have used it since day 1. dont think that is the cause or it would have appeared sooner.

I tried uninstalling the mcafee security and trying whilst at work, but it didnt help the problem.

Update: Problem stil happening, have not installed anything new recently or changed any settings apart from uninstalling above program to see if that helped but didnt.
