Hi, I have a VPCEB3J0E with preinstalled Windows7 64 bit. I want to change it to 32 bit. Wanted to know
1. If someone has done it
2. will I need to buy new licence of Win7
3. will it impact my warranty.
Any thoughts / suggestions welcome. I am really hating 64 bit with its limitations.
Sony do not support an option to install 32-bit Windows 7 so you will have to buy your own 32-bit license.
All the 32-bit drivers and utilitiy programs are available for download here: -
http://support.vaio.sony.eu/computing/vaio/downloads/preinstalled/index.aspx?l=en_GB&m=VPCEB3J0E_WI
But you will lose all the other preinstalled software which is only licensed for use with the Sony Operating System. (PMB, McAfee, MS Office Starter 2010, etc.)
As regards your warranty, you will have to make a set of recovery discs and also keep the Recovery Partition intact because if you need to claim on the warranty, you will have to replace the 64-bit operating system before Sony will accept the Vaio for repair.
Think carefully about making the change, there are several disadvantages and most things will run in various compatibility modes on the 64-bit system.
