What is a download directory, and why are my blu ray disks stuttering?

Am trying to get my blu rays to play, some work fine, but others stutter every few seconds. I have win dvd 9 plus blu ray. What cxan I do to stop this. Also, I am trying to download an update, and it says to save to a 'download directry' What is this and how do I do it.
My laptop is a sony vaio ar11s

Hi Blencogo, thanks for offering some advice on this problem too. I have looked in 'Imaging Devices' and the only one in there is for a Canon PIXMA Scanner which I own and occasionally plug in to use. I have opened all the tree to look for a yellow warning triangle against a USB device as you suggested, but I cannot find any.

In that case I guess I'll have to follow your advice and push Sony e-support for this option. Perhaps they can find the problem with my Blueray player too.
