Vaio VGN-AR12M intergated microphone

i have a Vaio VGN-AR21M laptop never used the integrated microphone, have spent hours trying to rectify this can anyone help ??

What Operating System are you using - the original XP Media Centre Edition or have you upgraded to Vista or Windows 7.

I presume you have tried right-clicking on the speaker icon in the taskbar and clicking on Volume Control.  Check in Options -> Properties that the Microphone is not muted and that the selected recording device is the microphone.

If all else fails it may be worth reinstalling the Audio and High Definition Drivers.
