VAIO start up problems and poor support from Sony

My VAIO has had problems with start up. I sent it to Sony for repair under warrenty and they returned it to me after having it about 3 weeks and when I switched on it asked me to insert recovery discs. I contacted Sony on a number of occasions (have spent a fortune as phone calls really expensive!) as I did not have the original recovery discs. I found the support people quite rude but eventually they sent me a set of recovery discs costing £44.00 and when I inserted them into my VAIO they just get spat out again. I know there are huige problems in the states with the start up mechanism with Sony but has anyone had a similar experience to me?
