Why are applications frequently going to "Not Responding" status on new VPCEC3S0E? And it has also stopped completely and rebooted? Is anyone else experiencing this difficulty?

Hi jbagelman,
Is the software on your Vaio fully up to date? Have you installed all Vaio Updates and Microsoft Updates?

Are you sure all the software you are running is compatible with the 64-bit Operating System?
Hi coolpolitealex,
To be fair to Sony and to PC World, no accidental damage is going to be covered by a standard warranty. Only Household Insurance or a special additional policy may cover this.
The backspace not working may be caused simply by a poor cable connection or may require a full keyboard replacement as there are no serviceable parts in the keyboard itself.
The PC World price is presumably for sending the laptop back to Sony for repair and you may find it cheaper and easier to deal with one of Sony's Service Partners near to where you live. There is a full list for the UK here: -

Well I actually did figure out the trouble, and have cleared it making my new laptop a fine piece of machinery. When I purchased it I was offered an anti-virus software with the purchase for free. I installed the anti-virus but during the installation was never asked to remove any existing anti-virus software. I did not realize then that it would not happily co-exist with the pre-installed McAffee software, which was waiting for me to pay the price. I removed the freebie and now all my programs are responding.
Now if I can only figure out why this doesn't have a firewire input for my Sony webcam...
