OPTICAL OUT ON DESKTOPS

Many people may be wondering what all this optical stuff means! So im going to ask the question!

I have optical out and was wondering what i can connect it too? Ive looked at soundcards etc but i dont see the point as the VAIO as ample soundcard power anyway and from what i have seen in music hardware stores, normal amps dont have optical connections?

Does this mean were stuck with being full home cinema kit or another PC made soundcard/Processor?

Im only looking at improving speaker quality of music so just want to see how i can do that!

As you say, the optical out is so you can connect your PC to home cinema systems for 5.1/7.1 sound depending on the model.

Hi,

You can also use it to record to Mini Disc if you wish, optical also carries normal stereo so you can use it with a large home amp for music on HD or CD,

you could also use it with an external sound card as your PC audio out if you so desire!!

I is a bit outdated now since USB audio came along!
