i have a pcg-grv616s notebook and have problems reading one memoryslot. When i bought it i immediately upgraded to 2 times 512MB. After 1,5 year i tought one memory died. So i bought a new one. Sometimes i have 1024 MB RAM but most of the times only 512 MB.
How can i remedy this problem?
Thanx, Patrick:smileycry:
You cannot solve your problem. It's a fabrication issue that each sony vaio has and that Sony won't recognize. There is plenty of forums out there describing this problem:

The problem is that the memory slot soldering is faulty, so it will stop working after a random amount of time. People is using the strangest workarounds, like pieces of wood or paper under the memory cover, in such a way that the memory slot is pressed on the motherboard. But this is just temporary...
There is a petition on line and also a Class Action (in US) is under consideration. The problem is so big and interests such a big slice of Sony users, that an independent company is born to fix these issues at prices lower than Sony's!!! It is

Needless to say, I also have the same problem, I talked with the assistance and they don't recognize it as a fabrication problem, so they want around 80 ¿ JUST to tell me how much the reparation will cost! The solution is naturally the motherboard substitution that I estimate between 700 and 900 ¿. Just not worth!
Is anyone from Sony looking at this post and willing to give some answers? Thanks
Ahhrg, as I read this, my beard hairs was falling out.

Hmm, I think my 512MB RAM is enough, i was about to upgrade... but now I dont want to touch any potentially loose connections.

Sounds like the typical memory slot failure the GR series suffered. Sony can repair it, last time I heard it was £80

I think, Sony must repair this for nothing.:smileyfrustrated:Same here
