Total shot in the dark, but... did you install your own version of Windows?
That'd be consistent with drivers being not - or not properly - installed.
If yes, visit the download section of the support website for your model and install the missing bits from the appropriate tab.
If no, can you please tell us which VAIO model you have and what was done with it?
