How to obtain the Recovery Utility after Winows XP reinstallation??

Three days ago I have got my dreamed Sony VAIO VGN-FE28h notebook.
There was Windows XP Media Center Edition preinstaled with all necessary drivers, all necessary utilities -> all legal!! Cd-key was original and legal too.

During having my fun with my notebook it suddenly crushed and I had to reinstall Windows XP MCE - but ... I didn`t receive Win XP Media Center Edition CD with my Notebook, so I had to install my own (legal) Windows XP Pro.

Now I am trying to install all the necessary drivers & utilities, but on the www.vaio-link.com there is written only how to install drivers with the Recovery Utility->Recovery Tool. It is a big problem because I DON`T have the Recovery Utility & the Recovery Tool installed on my Vaio, because it was deleted during the instalation of my own Win XP Pro!!!
How to download VAIO Recovery Utility?? How can I install my drivers without this Recovery Utility??

I have partition C with my Win Pro, partition D which is empty and this hidden partition to make the Recovery.

I found that I can push the F10 button during system initialization and then I can have my system recovered. OK - it worked... BUT my VAIO is a present from my uncle, who lives in France and after recovery I have Windows XP MCE with french language!!! I want english language  !! How can I change this language ??

Hi michero,

Welcome to Club vaio,

Was the original Windows XP Media centre Edition a French version, as the Vaio recovery utility (f10) should only restore your vaio back to the original factory settings..

Hi!! Thank you for the warm greeting!!

-------

My Windows XP MCE is in the french language now - after being recovered using the F10 button. So it seems that this are the original settings. But when I received my VAIO FE28H it had english version of Win XP MCE!!

Can I change somehow the language in my Windows?? Or maybe I can change my hidden Recovery Partition in order to get the windows recovered with the language I want (english)??

-------

I would like to have english version of Windows, so I can install my own Win XP from my private CD and not from the Recovery Partition, but I don`t know how to install the drivers without the Recovery Tool. There is a pack of drivers and utilities on the vaio site, but without Recovery Tool I can`t install them!! Is there any other way to do so ??

---------

I don`t quite understand this Recovery Tool... in my "Recovery Guide" is written that I must click Start->All Programs->VAIO Recovery Tool in my Win XP and recover my system. And what is the difference between this recovery type and the recovery using F10 button ??

Hello michero!

Welcome!

Changing the Language for Windows XP MCE is easier than you think. First of all you must know that Microsoft released only one version of WMCE which is in English. To make multilingual versions they release the MUI pack [Multilingual User Interface].

To get your Windows back to English you must uninstall the French MUI pack files.

Open your windows directory and then the mui folder. Run muisetup.exe

C:\WINDOWS\mui\muisetup.exe

Accept the agreement and click CONTINUE, uncheck the French language and click OK.

Reboot and you're done.

I did the same with my Spanish VAIO.

Cheers,

Brian

Well, hello Simona.

You should get the MUI Pack from Microsoft.com It's a little heavy, I believe. But that should solve your problem.

Keep me posted.
