I got my Vaio [40gb] about two days ago and im trying to transfer my mp3s into it.
i have installed the firmware update and the vaio transfer update, not yet the sonicstage 2.3 and i was trying to transfer my mp3s with vaio transfer.
the thing is it trasnfers them into a big folder, changes their names and also turns them into ".oma" files.
I thought the updates were supposed to help you trasnfer mp3s over with no affection at all.
Anyone able to help me?
i really wanted to buy this little treasure and now im beginning to think that its got some serious probs.please help me cope with it.
Thanks
Hi
You have to upgrade all three.
1 firmvare
2 sonicstage
3 vaio transfer
I have installed SonicStage 2.3 in addition to the vaio transfer and firmware update but the problem still remains...
The thing is my files turn into ".oma" and cannot be transfered back to my pc after that, its like they're locked or something.
Does your pocket transfer mp3 with the ".mp3" or turn them into ".oma" as well?I mean in the folder that all the music is stored, mine has just ".oma"
This problem is starting to freak me out.
Thanks a lot for the help:smileyhappy:
i would really appreciate it if you could reply again.
By the way...i dont mean transfer as in copy-paste but the original transfer procedure as in Sonicstage and Vaio transfer music.
Does anybody else have the same problem?
How do your music files appear in the omgaudio folder??
Hello,
Unfortunately what your seeing is the normal way of working after the firmware upgrade. The mp3 are renamed and have some type of encryption added.
In the past few months there has been quite a few bitter posts in this forum regarding this issue. Personally I feel Sony has misguided people by saying that it now supports mp3, however this doesn't make me any less happy about the product.
To note there is a free Atrac3 to Mp3 converter floating about, and it works well. I'll try to dig it out this evening.
Thanks a lot for the informing.
I actually thought something like that was going on....do you have any idea why sone would do this;i mean pretend to be able to transfer them but still convert them somehow?
Also, you mentioned a converter from atrac to mp3.What possible use would this have?i mean could i use it to take the ".oma" files from the vaio pocket and re-convert them into mp3?
Thanks again
No one seems quite sure for the misguidance.
Yes, the converter can be used to take the .oma files and convert them back to mp3/wma/ogg (converstion on your PC since the Vaio pocket will only play .oma files)
It can be found here . download all 3 files on that page.
i realise it doesn't solve the problem, but it maybe the next best thing.
Seems like the best solution there is...
The problem still remains though as you have to carry the converter with you if you want to transfer your music into your friends pc f.example.
I hope its quite simple in its use and that it takes no more than a few minutes to install and run it.If not,the low speed and chance of problems occured that shows up with sonicstage will be extended to this as well.
Anyway,cheers for the prog.
