Has anyone tried upgrading the hard drive in a VGC-LA1 or LA2?

I am thinking of upgrading the hard Drive on my VGC-LA2 to a 750GB Seagate Barracuda Drive model 7200-10. 300GB doesn't seem enough to me if I'm to use it as a PVR+ music + personal and work files. Using it as a PVR really eats up the drive space I've noticed. Media PCs should be coming with 500GB minimum I reckon

This article seems to suggest it is possible to upgrade the drive
http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/95996/sony-vaio-vgcla1.html
"The LA1 is clearly designed for buyers more concerned with what their PC will do right now rather than its potential as a hobby-box. Opening the system is a task in itself, with a dozen or so screws meaning the job takes around 15 minutes, and once the back is off you're seriously limited in terms of upgrades. The hard disk is in a custom enclosure, secured with yet more screws, and the laptop-style optical drive is almost impossible to remove. "

Does anyone know the detailed specification of the Hard Drive already installed in the PC. In particular, is it SATA I or SATA II? (1.5 or 3 speed)

The current drive seems very quiet, suggesting its a pretty good drive already. Anyone know who makes it?

Another option is to go down the eSATA route and connect up an eSATA drive via the ExpressCard, though it seems difficult to find details of eSATA Expresscards as these are relatively new. Anyone know of any good ones?

many thanks,
Paul
