Hi All,

I just purchased a Vio VGN-TZ11XN which comes preconfigured with windows Vista Business. I want to downgrade to Windows XP.

I see Sony provide XP drivers for my system but will not provide an oem XP product key which means I have to go out and purchase Microsoft Xp to install it on the system.

Why should I have to pay microsoft TWICE for one working operating system.

I took a video of myself powering up the out of box system and not excepting the license agreement for Windows Vista. So as far as I am concerned Sony owe me the value of the OEM Windows Vista License key and I would like to know why Sony are not providing rebates for unused license keys. There should be a value of between €60 and €100 on the key.

It is up to Sony to rebate for unused license keys and for them in return to go to Microsoft for their rebate. As I will not be able to use the Windows Vista OEM key on any other system.

So can anyone please advise as to how to get this ball rolling.

I shall be contacting both Sony support and Microsoft with regard to this.

However, I expect the answer will be that you have bought a package that uncludes the OEM Vista software. By buying that package, in the full knowledge that it contains Vista as the OS, you are accepting that the specifications provided before purchase are suitable for your purpose.

There will be a great many purchases where you are buying a package of components - like a car. If you buy one knowing that you want to change something, the cost of that change is down to you!

No I believe by law you are incorrect, Sony offer the license with the product if I do not wish to own the product they are bundling with their hardware I don't have to accept the license agreement from microsoft and hence should be entitled to a rebate.

I shall dig out a precident from last year where a gentleman bought a other suppliers system with a windows oem on it. Declained the license agreement as he wanted to install linux on the system and got a rebate for his windows.
